Controversial bureaucrat Neera Yadav, who was recently shunted out from the chief secretary's chair by a Supreme Court order, will probe the communal riots in Mau town in eastern Uttar Pradesh, that have left seven dead and 33 wounded over the past three days.
Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav made a formal announcement in this regard at a press conference here Monday.
Neera Yadav is currently the chairperson of the state Revenue Board.
Violence broke out in Mau town, about 70 km from Varanasi Friday morning over a Dussehra procession through a Muslim-dominated locality.
Meanwhile, R. Ramani took over as chief secretary Monday evening. He had been officiating in the post after Neera Yadav's exit on Oct 6.
Neera Yadav was shifted on the orders of the apex court following a complaint raising questions about her alleged involvement in several corruption cases. (IANS)
